Get to Know the Events for the Student Postdoc-SIG at OHBM 2024

Written by Analia Marzoratti

It’s finally time for OHBM’s 2024 meeting, being held from June 23-27 in the vibrant city of Seoul, Korea, and you know the Student and Postdoc Special Interest Group (SP-SIG) has plenty of activities planned! We have an exciting lineup of events designed to foster collaboration, mentorship, and community among early career researchers in neuroimaging. Whether you're a seasoned conference-goer or it's your first time, there's something for everyone. We hope to create a safe space for like-minded beginning neuroscientists amidst the intense learning experience we’re all in for at the conference.

The SP-SIG will have a table near the registration booths where we will be handing out our networking stickers. Come by to chat, meet the SIG, and grab some neuroscience and Korean food stickers to put on your conference badge at any point throughout the conference!

Monday, June 24

*** Morning Coffee with SP-SIG (7:15am - 8:15am): Is it your first time at OHBM? Are you traveling solo? Are you jet-lagged and in desperate need of free caffeine? Come meet members of the SP-SIG to head to the conference together. Keep an eye out on our social media or website to find the location of this event in the Coex Center closer to the day-of.

*** Lunch with Mentors (12:40pm - 1:40pm): For those of you that registered beforehand, come join us in Conference Room E1 to share a conversation over a meal with a senior brain researcher and with other trainees. This is a great opportunity to network and have more personal conversations with potential future colleagues or collaborators.

*** Monday Night Social (8:00pm - 1:00am): Kick off the week of the conference with a night of fun and networking at Arte Seoul/Club Arte. Join fellow early career brain researchers to unwind and make new connections in a relaxed setting. The first 600 attendees receive a free drink! The event will have lots of dancing, fun photo booths, and even a special performance. Activities include Group Art in collaboration with the Brain Art SIG, traditional Korean games, neuroscience quizzes with opportunities to win prizes, and some contestants’ art pieces provided by Brain Art SIG.

Tuesday, June 25

*** Roundtable- Connections that Count: Strategies for Fostering Successful Mentor-Mentee Relationships in Neuroimaging (2:00pm-3:00pm):  Unlock your research potential by joining our roundtable in Conference Room E1, where seasoned experts will lead a discussion focused on building and maintaining effective mentor-mentee relationships. Don't the practical advice form our expert panel including Dr. Fernando Barrios (National Autonomous University of Mexico), Dr. Adam Goodman (University of Alabama at Birmingham), Dr. Mark Seal (University of Melbourne), and Dr. Muriah Wheelock (Washington University in St. Louis).

*** Symposium- Increasing International Collaboration Opportunities for Early Career Researchers (4:00pm - 5:15pm): Join us in Hall D2 for an insightful discussion of strategies for expanding your research network across borders and gaining the perspectives this can offer for your research pursuits in neuroimaging. Hear from a global panel of experts on the topic, including Dr. Michael Milham (Child Mind Institute), Dr. Stephanie Noble (Northeastern University), and Dr. Mac Shine (University of Sydney).

*** Walking Tour of Seoul (6:30pm - 7:30pm): SP-SIG invites you to explore the beautiful city of Seoul through this tour offered in collaboration with the Center for Neuroscience Imaging Research (CNIR) at the Sungkyunkwan University Institute for Basic Science in Suwon. Meet at the SP-SIG Table and join us for an evening walking tour, a perfect way to unwind after a long day of sessions.

If you have any questions about the schedule or need further information, feel free to email us at ohbmtrainees@gmail.com. Join us for a week of learning, networking, and fun as we delve into the latest in neuroimaging research. We look forward to seeing you in Seoul!
